|John - Band Kosch
John Kosch is proud to join Elm Creek schools as their new Director of Bands. He currently instructs 4-12 band, music technology, and serves as the speech coach. In addition to his duties in Elm Creek, Mr. Kosch directs the choir at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kearney.
A Lincoln native, Mr. Kosch received his bachelor's degree in music education from the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He graduated summa cum laude from the university honors program and was named a Chancellor's Scholar. During his studies he served as percussion instructor for Lincoln Southwest High School. Under his direction, the ensemble received superior ratings in all 2015 contests. He is also the former director of the LSW men’s choir. During his tenure, the choir received a superior rating at district music competition and made an appearance at the UNL Men’s Festival.
Mr. Kosch is also an active performer and composer. As a pianist, he has appeared with groups such as the Bobby Layne Orchestra, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, and the Cornhusker Boys State/Girls State Chorus. His compositions have garnered several honors, including a Student Downbeat Award, a Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award, first place in the NAfME Young Composers Competition, and a merit award from the Tribeca New Music Young Composer Competition.
Mr. Kosch is thrilled by the opportunity to make music with such a wide range of students. He promises to do everything he can to help each individual experience success.
