Agricultural Education

I will be entering my 2nd year at Elm Creek and my 2nd year teaching. I am from Sumner, NE where I grew up on a diversified livestock and crop production operation. I was very active in both 4-H and FFA and have taken my passion for those two organizations and made it my career. I graduated from UNL in 2015 with a degree in Agricultural Education.

This next year I will be offering a variety of classes which include...

Introduction to Agriculture: this class serves as a prerequisite to all other ag classes. Students learn about the agriculture education program from a national level and discover how they can join and become involved.

Animal Science I: Students interested in animals will learn breeds of livestock, livestock judging, and basic animal handling practices. Serves as the prerequisite for NCTA Animal Management.

Animal Science II: This class will serve as a follow up for students who are wanting to become more educated in large animal management. This will be a good course for students who are not wanting to take an ag class for college credit.

NCTA Animal Management: This course is offered through NCTA and will transfer to all major agriculture universities. Students will look in-depth at the digestive and reproductive systems of beef cattle, swine operations, and dairy cattle nutrition.

Plant Science: In this course students will learn range judging, soil types, and basic plant systems. Serves as the prerequisite for NCTA Crop Science.

NCTA Crop Science: This course is offered through NCTA and will transfer to all major agriculture universities. Students will gain skills needed to pursue a major in crop sciences or agronomy.

Agribusiness: In this course students will learn about different business systems, grain management techniques, and basic financial literacy skills.

Floriculture: In this course students will learn different types of flowers, how they grow best, and how to make floral designs.
